Hi there, I'm Kerry Spence! I've been a Portrait Artist and Art Educator professionally for over 16 years.
I'm passionate about creating portraits for clients that want to preserve or capture a special moment with a hand-drawn portrait. Behind every portrait is a story that needs to be told. It's my pleasure to bring that vision to life.

AN OPPORTUNITY WITH LOUIS VUITTON!
I am excited to announce a new creative opportunity has come my way to work with Louis Vuitton as their personalization artist on the Gold Coast - painting clients requests on their hard sided luggage.
As an artist, when you take on any new surface and medium it requires time and patience to get used to it - it has taken many hours to be comfortable with painting on such a textured surface but now I am through the qualifying process and looking forward to creating client’s requests.
Kerry Spence Art Studio is based in Tweed Heads, NSW - a stone's throw from the famous beaches of the Gold Coast, Australia.
In this workspace, Kerry conducts Workshops, Private Tuition and creates commissioned masterpieces.

THE ARCHIBALD SERIES
The Archibald Prize is awarded annually to the best portrait, 'preferentially of some man or woman distinguished in art, letters, science or politics, painted by any artist resident in Australasia’.
Established in 1921, The Archibald is sponsored by the Art Gallery of NSW, bringing together artists from all around Australia.
The very first time I entered the Archibald Prize was in response to a bet made that if Gordon Merchant (Founder of Billabong Surfwear) would agree to sit for me I would enter the portrait in the competition.
Knowing that Gordon is a quiet and somewhat reclusive character, I laughed and said "Sure - I'll do it!" not thinking for a moment he would agree. Well, he agreed, so I had to do it!
Entering the Archibald has taught me a lot - the process of entering competitions, pushing my art to another level and learning the process of working from life with my subject. It has encouraged me to try different ideas - all in all it's been a great experience for me! I can't wait to reveal my 2020 entry to you.
Kerry’s journey as a portrait artist began with drawing the faces of her favourite musicians from their album covers when she was younger. Faces have been her focus since - whether it be human or animal. To transfer the life and soul of her subject to paper or canvas is her goal. Being a typical artist she has jumped between different subjects and mediums at times, experimenting - but eventually circles back to portraits.
Kerry has lived in the Coolangatta/Tweed region since she was a child - when she started drawing those album covers! In her earlier education she completed tertiary qualifications in graphic design along with workplace training and assessment skills specifically for teaching visual arts fundamentals.
She now works with Louis Vuitton as a customisation artist painting clients requests on their pieces and teaches visual art fundamentals as an Artist in Residence at schools in addition to tutoring private lessons in her garden studio in Tweed Heads, on the southern Gold Coast, Australia.
Kerry does portrait commissions in a classic black and white style with charcoal or as a story portrait in pastels or oils. Her goal for the coming year is to put the visual art fundamentals of drawing and painting that she teaches online so that anyone can access and learn and not be constrained by geography or time limits.
